Transition is a gradual and ongoing process, which enables continuity of children’s learning from home to preschool to school in a caring, supportive and challenging way.
Roxby Downs Area School and Roxby Downs Kindergarten are committed to providing a school visiting program that is a smooth process from one place of learning to another for children.
This process will cater for the individual needs of both parents and children, providing an introduction to and orientation of the school in all aspects of the staff, buildings, yard and classroom expectations.
School visits commence 5 weeks prior to children starting and are presently held on a Friday. They allow children to gradually experience a full day of learning, whilst familiarising themselves with the locality of their classroom and facilities like the school canteen and library.
In 2013, intakes from Kindergarten will occur in Terms 1,2,3 and 4 for children who have turned 5 on or prior to the first day of the term. However, as of 2014 and in line with all other South Australian Schools, there will be one intake. Children will need to have turned 5 prior to the 1st of May to be eligible for starting school at the commencement of 2014 year.
